Carlsbad Early College High School took seven BPA students to the National Leadership Convention in Dallas, Texas from May 4-8, 2022. The students competed in various events such as Interview Skills, Banking and Finance, Advanced Spreadsheet Applications, IT Device Configuration and Troubleshooting, and Webpage Design. Although the students did not place high in their competitions, they had a very valuable learning experience. There were thousands of students competing from approximately 25 states and Puerto Rico. For most of the students, this was their first year to compete. All of the students took several certification exams while at the conference.
Sierra Spencer earned certifications in:
- 21st Century Skills
- Early Childhood Education I and II
- Preparing for College and Careers
- Early Childhood Education IB
Leonela Romero-Calanche earned certificates in:
- Preparing for College and Careers
- Early Childhood Education I
Hailey McDonald earned certifications in:

Ella Chapler earned a certification in Medical Terminology.
River Hutchins and Maranda Campbell both earned certifications in 21st Century Skills.
These certifications help the students to build their resumes and connect with job opportunities. While in Dallas, we had an outing at the Dallas World Aquarium, which the students seemed to love! Overall it was a fantastic experience and we would like to thank Carlsbad Soil and Water Conservation, HollyFrontier Navajo Refining LLC, Shelby Hester with Hester Allstate Agency, Southeast Readi-Mix, Constructors, Inc., Forrest Tire Company, Inc., PVT - Penasco Valley Telephone Cooperative, Inc., Harmony Healing, TDM, and United Materials who made donations to the group to help them get to Dallas. We really appreciate the community support for the CECHS chapter of Business Professionals of America. We are already off to a great start for next year as we will more than double our membership thanks to the great experiences of this year's group!
